After more than 24 years of designing and developing websites, we've witnessed the web evolve from relatively simple online brochures into sophisticated digital platforms that combine content, commerce, automation, integrations and artificial intelligence.

The way websites are built has changed dramatically.

More importantly, the role they play within a business has changed.

Today, a website is often just one part of a much larger digital ecosystem. It may need to connect with business systems, automate workflows, integrate with third-party platforms, support customer self-service, generate leads, provide intelligence and increasingly leverage AI.

When we began planning the next generation of the Stonehut website, we wanted it to reflect that reality.

Not simply through what it said, but through what it actually does.

Why We Chose Lovable

For our own website, we selected Lovable as the primary frontend development platform.

The decision was driven by the requirements of the project rather than loyalty to a particular technology.

Lovable provided an excellent framework for rapidly prototyping, refining and developing a modern user experience, while supporting a much faster cycle of iteration than traditional development workflows.

It allowed us to focus on:

  • User experience

  • Messaging

  • Interactive functionality

  • AI integration

  • Continuous improvement

without sacrificing quality or flexibility.

Most importantly, it allowed us to build a website that could continue evolving as quickly as the technology landscape itself.

The Requirement Determines the Technology

One point is worth making clear.

Choosing Lovable for the Stonehut website does not mean Lovable is automatically the right solution for every client.

At Stonehut, we have always believed that technology should follow business requirements.

Depending on the project, we may recommend:

  • WordPress

  • Shopify

  • WooCommerce

  • Custom development

  • API-driven platforms

  • Client portals

  • Business automation systems

  • AI integrations

  • Bespoke digital solutions

or a combination of several technologies working together.

Our role is not to promote a specific platform.

Our role is to understand the problem, evaluate the requirements and recommend the technology stack best suited to achieving the client's objectives.

For our own website, Lovable happened to be the right choice.

More Than a Website

The new Stonehut website was designed as a practical demonstration of how modern digital platforms can work.

One example is the introduction of the Stonehut Intelligence Bar.

Rather than functioning as a traditional website search tool or chatbot, it provides an interactive layer where visitors can explore questions around websites, eCommerce, automation, AI, digital platforms and business systems.

The Intelligence Bar is connected to OpenAI and informed by Stonehut's own knowledge base, allowing it to draw upon our experience, services, methodologies and expertise.

This creates a more relevant and useful experience than a generic AI assistant, helping visitors explore potential solutions before making contact. By understanding the visitor's requirements and guiding them towards appropriate solutions, the Intelligence Bar also helps Stonehut attract more qualified enquiries — connecting us with businesses that have already begun defining what they need and how we may be able to help.

Building an AI-Aware Digital Platform

The website has been structured to support both traditional search engines and emerging AI-driven discovery platforms.

As AI becomes increasingly important in how people research services and evaluate suppliers, businesses need to think beyond conventional SEO.

The Stonehut website has therefore been designed with:

  • Structured service content

  • Detailed case studies

  • Knowledge-base integration

  • AI-assisted discovery pathways

  • Clear information architecture

  • Scalable content structures

This helps ensure that both people and AI systems can better understand what Stonehut does, how we work and where our expertise lies.

A Modern Technology Stack

The new platform combines multiple technologies and architectural layers working together.

These include:

  • Lovable-powered frontend development

  • OpenAI integration

  • A structured Stonehut knowledge base

  • Service-aware AI responses

  • Reusable content architecture

  • Structured case studies

  • Conversion-focused enquiry workflows

  • Search and AI visibility optimisation

Together, these components create a platform that is considerably more dynamic than a traditional brochure website.

Designed for Continuous Improvement

One of the significant advantages of our approach is the speed of iteration.

The website has been designed so that content, functionality, prompts, AI capabilities and user journeys can continue to evolve over time.

Rather than treating a website as a project that is launched and forgotten, we increasingly view digital platforms as living systems that should continuously improve as businesses grow and technologies change.

Lovable is particularly well suited to this approach, allowing us to rapidly test ideas, refine experiences and introduce new functionality.

Practising What We Recommend

Ultimately, the new Stonehut website is more than a redesign.

It is a working example of how we believe modern digital platforms should be built.

It demonstrates the combination of design, development, AI, automation, integrations, content architecture and business thinking that increasingly defines the projects we deliver for clients.

After 24 years, the technologies have changed dramatically.

What hasn't changed is our approach:

Understand the requirement. Choose the right technology. Build the right solution.

The new Stonehut website is simply the latest expression of that philosophy.
